SLEEP HOTEL, LONDON, U.K. “We've developed a flowing structure in a continuous form, which expresses the confluence of new hotel design ideas.". A SERENE OASIS The eye-catching bar per se suggests a peaceful, sun-dappled lake in its organic form, with a rippled surface gleaming under illumination. The source of this lake springs not from the mountains but from an oversized tap that flows with champagne! A-Gent of Style tested the functionality of the bar and tasted the goods, all for professional purposes, of course, and can report the design was a complete tour de force. The imposing structural and architectural metal sculptures on the wall that coiled and curled, with lasered cut-out designs, reflects strong light sources from everywhere while portraying a beam of elegance and tranquility. |
JAMAICA BLUE (SUNTEC CITY), SINGAPORE Design concept: "It’s not only about the coffee. It is also about the people". “Sometimes we like to stand out, but there are times when we just want to hide.”. From the fundamentals of deciding where to go, to deciding what to drink, waiting in the queue, interacting with the staff, choosing a comfortable spot, having a conversation, or even people-watching. These considerations are how 'i-Capture Design' began with 'Jamaica Blue'. Clean linear lines of this design allow the textures and patterns, on metal and wood, to stand out very naturally. |
HOLLAND ROAD, SINGAPORE Featured in Tatler Homes magazine, this nursery was designed to enhance bonding between mother and child. Light pastel colours against white, adds a subtle playful touch to the cosy ambience. We wanted to create a room that a child can snuggle, explore and revel in, without worrying about his/her safety and comfort. We believe it is important for a nursery to be a place of beauty, tranquility, but also of practicality. Therefore we started out with a blueprint which reflected our space planning ideas, of how parents may manoeuvre with ease, and also interact with their child. We dived into selecting materials which would enhance, as well as compliment the furniture and character of the room. Working very closely with our client, we went shopping for furniture that would best suit their storage and aesthetic needs. In addition, we personalised the room by accessorising the walls with photo frames and vintage hand-carved display shelves to give it a unique character. While the ivory standing lamp produces a warm glow, the Turkish rug and luscious day & night curtains, together with a linen glider, baby-friendly bedding, as well as some D-I-Y turquoise ribbons, adds a soft touch and a tinge of colour to brighten up this little haven. Examining the study room, we decided to combine the day and the night curtains to allow sufficient sunlight to pass through, whilst softening the look of the full height glass doors and everything on the outdoors. As both our clients have very busy schedules, it was our mission to ensure that their study room was one that could enable them to concentrate on tasks at hand, as well as provide a comfotable place of solitude where they could indulge in a book or a relaxing conversation. |
ENSINGER ASIA HOLDING, SINGAPORE Engineering plastics (Germany) For many years, Ensinger Asia was operating its warehouse in an environment that was lacking in good spatial workflow. It was prone to accidents and staff were unable to search for items, as there were insufficient storage compartments. We started by understanding their needs and concerns. Then began to devise a plan. Initially, the staff were skeptical as to how this renovation would improve their working condition. But we knew deep down, that a change was necessary, to ensure the safety of warehouse staff and its visitors. We were confident that our expertise and skills would bring about a transformation. Eventually, our team worked tirelessly to ensure quality of workmanship, and we met the tight deadline so Ensinger could begin their operations. We optimised and integrated spaces to allow better spatial workflow. Instead of hiding unsightly machinery, we gave these bulky equipments a facelift, and created a gallery where they could be showcased. Afterall, these were machines that cost as much as luxury cars, so why not flaunt it? This warehouse certainly has stood out from the crowd, in comparison to its neighbours. It has received compliments of it being very organised, bright and an impressive warehouse. Customers love the gallery where machinery were on display, and informative business presentation and graphics smear the walls from floor to ceiling. They appreciate the fun safety signages on the walls and floor too. We managed to adhere to the corporate requirements and respected the company's identity throughout the design. This renovation has increased the morale of warehouse staff, and given customers more confidence in Ensinger as a company. In the land of Singapore, it is unusual for companies to invest in their warehouses. Which is why we are so proud of Ensinger for taking this bold step to changing our warehouse landscape, and setting the standard for many others to follow. UPPER SERANGOON CRESCENT, SINGAPORE The approach to crafting a home is subjective to each dweller's aspirations, but it always finds its foundation in our deepest beliefs. The Build To Order (BTO) public housing HDB scheme allows young couples to afford their own homes, but has little variations for each owner to reflect their personalities. Therefore we decided to dig deeper into how we could create a home that would represent the owner's heart, kernel and bedrock of values, whilst tackling space and budget constraints. We worked very closely with the owners to carve out a home we are all very proud of. |

TIES-THAT-BIND (OUTDOOR FURNITURE), SINGAPORE
A truly meaningful project. Originally designed for Singapore Furniture Industries Council in efforts to preserve the Singapore culture for future generations to be aware of the history and heritage of Singapore, and to get a taste of how it was like back in the days, as if they were a part of it in this throwback. As the Singapore Sports Stadium had to make way for the new Sports Hub to take over with a new look, there were thousands of timber benches that had to be removed. These timber were benches where Singaporeans sat on (under rain and heat) while watching the National Day Parade, inter-country Asean Football events etc. A number of Singapore architects, designers, sculptors and artists were commissioned to take on these benches and create an outdoor furniture with these materials. We are very proud to present Ties-that-bind. |
Ties-that-bind was spotted by a few government bodies, and has thus travelled (transportation managed by NParks) to various parts of Singapore such as the:
- NATIONAL MUSEUM OF SINGAPORE - NATIONAL HERITAGE BOARD - NATIONAL LIBRARY (VICTORIA STREET) - FORT CANNING PARK - DHOBY GHAUT GREEN |
" ARMED WITH A PACIFIER IN MY MOUTH, & A BOLSTER IN MY ARMS, MY GRANDFATHER USED TO GIVE ME PIGGYBACK RIDES TO THE TIONG BAHRU PLAYGROUND WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. HE WOULD CARRY ME THERE ON HIS UNAFFECTED ARM AFTER SUFFERING FROM A PARTIAL STROKE. "
|
THERE ARE LESS THAN FOUR TRADITIONAL MERRY-GO-ROUNDS LEFT IN SINGAPORE.
|
" I WAS ALWAYS ENVIOUS OF THE OLDER KIDS AS A TODDLER, ADMIRING FROM AFAR AS THEY SPUN ON THE MERRY-GO-ROUND IN AMUSEMENT. AS SOON AS I WAS OLD ENOUGH TO RIDE ON IT, MY GRANDPARENTS WOULD RECIPROCATE MY FRANTIC WAVES WITH EACH COMPLETE ROUND. "
|
THE PRECIOUS MEMORIES OF MY CHILDHOOD, AT PARKS, WILL NEVER FADE AWAY.
|
THIS MERRY-GO-ROUND CUM SWING DESIGN WAS INSPIRED BY THE PAST AND PRESENT PLAYGROUNDS IN SINGAPORE. IN THE 1960S, ARCHITECTS WERE COMMISSIONED TO DESIGN PLAYGROUNDS ALL AROUND SINGAPORE WHICH RESEMBLED DIFFERENT ANIMALS SUCH AS THE PELICAN, THE ELEPHANT, THE TORTOISE, THE SQUIRREL, THE BUM BOAT, AND EVEN TILL THIS DAY, THE DRAGON PLAYGROUND IS STILL AROUND IN TOA PAYOH! ALTHOUGH MANY OF THE ABOVE HAVE BEEN DEMOLISHED TO MAKE WAY FOR NEWER PLAYGROUNDS, THESE PRECIOUS MEMORIES ARE STILL FONDLY REMEMBERED IN OUR HEARTS AND IN PHOTOGRAPHS, FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION. WE DECIDED TO KEEP THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE MOSAIC, AS A MATERIAL THE ARCHITECTS AND BUILDERS USED BACK THEN TO CLAD THOSE PLAYGROUNDS AFTER THE CEMENT STRUCTURE WERE CONSTRUCTED.
THE DESIGN AIM WAS TO CREATE AN INCLUSIVE-MAGNET THAT WOULD ATTRACT KIDS FROM DIFFERENT ETHNICITY AND BACKGROUNDS TO BREATHE THE CONCEPT OF INTERACTION AND FAMILY-TIES, WHILST PRESERVING THE SINGAPOREAN IDENTITY.
|
LOCAL ICONIC PLAYGROUND ELEMENTS SUCH AS THE ORANGE DRAGON, GREEN ELEPHANT SLIDE, BLUE PELICAN ETC. WERE FORMED OUT OF MOSAIC & INTEGRATED WITH TRADITIONAL MATERIALS SUCH AS BRAIDED ROPES & TIMBER SWINGS.
|
" ONE DAY, MY FRIEND SENT ME A PICTURE OF WHAT SHE SAW ON INSTAGRAM. IT WAS OF PEOPLE WHO TOOK PHOTOS WITH THIS OUTDOOR FURNITURE, 'TIES-THAT-BIND'. TO ME, EVEN IF THAT WAS JUST SO MY FRIEND AND I COULD HAVE A BRIEF CONVERSATION DESPITE OUR BUSY LIVES, I TRULY BELIEVE THIS PROJECT HAS SERVED ITS PURPOSE. "

CHARITIES:
We make a living by what we GET, but we make a life by what we GIVE. - Winston Churchill
Since 2005, we've been supporting the less fortunate in Cambodia, in hopes that by solving their financial needs, they will be able to continue to stay in school instead of heading straight to work at a tender young age. We also sponsor their university education for those who are able to. We strongly believe that education is a stepping stone out of poverty and into their destiny. More importantly, that they will inspire others and give back to society in return.
